Less Wrong

Trying Again

I’ve tried blogging before and it’s never stuck.

I think the main reasons are:

  1. Unrealistic expectations of myself - shouldn’t each blog be an absolute masterpiece, thoroughly researched and well articulated?
  2. Doesn’t AI now mean it’s all a waste of time anyway, as realistically an LLM can do a better/faster/cheaper job than me and flood the zone with slop?
  3. The interest/time equation gets out of whack amongst the daily pushes and pulls of life (work, family, health, doomscrolling)
  4. All the blogging platforms are so god damn fancy these days - it all feels very complicated.

But I’m trying again, with the following solutions to the above problems:

  1. Chill out and write for myself - think in ink, and let the plaudits follow in due course (or never - also fine)
  2. As above, play a different game. Don’t care about quantity, focus on quality.
  3. Don’t make it a monster of a task. Start simple. Write something every day even if it’s a bit benign.
  4. Use Bear Blog, because it means I don’t have to care about all the jazz. “Look for the bare necessities...”

Let’s see how it goes.
